In a major win for cybersecurity, the notorious DDoS review platform Dstat.cc has been seized by law enforcement as part of the ongoing Operation PowerOFF 🌐. This international operation targets “DDoS-for-hire” services — also known as “booters” or “stressers” — which facilitate large-scale cyberattacks on businesses and critical infrastructure. 🚔

Authorities arrested two suspects in Germany, aged 19 and 28, believed to be behind Dstat.cc as well as an illicit synthetic drug market called “Flight RCS.” The arrests were led by:

🏢 Central Office for Combating Cybercrime (ZIT)🕵️ Hesse State Criminal Police Office (HLKA)🚨 Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA)

While Dstat.cc didn’t conduct DDoS attacks directly, it allowed malicious actors to review and recommend powerful stressor services that could disrupt online services. The platform’s Telegram channel, with over 6,600 members, served as a meeting ground for cybercriminals to exchange attack insights. As of now, this channel has been wiped clean and locked to prevent further activity.

Pro-Russia Hacktivist Groups: Groups like Killnet and Passion reportedly leveraged Dstat.cc to showcase DDoS attack capabilities, often targeting healthcare and other critical sectors in Europe and the U.S.International Police Collaboration: Searches and arrests were conducted across Germany, France, Greece, Iceland, and the United States.

DDoS-for-hire platforms enable non-technical users to execute DDoS attacks with just a few clicks, causing disruptions and economic damage. These platforms have also been a significant target in recent police operations due to the increase in DDoS attacks for revenge, extortion, and hacktivism purposes.

Under Section 127 of the German Criminal Code, these activities carry potential prison sentences of up to 10 years and hefty fines 💸.

Operation PowerOFF has already taken down major DDoS platforms worldwide. Previously, it dismantled the UK-based DigitalStress and arrested operators of similar services in Poland, with multiple domains seized globally.
