Configuring a proxy in a browser can help you route your traffic through a different IP address, ideal for testing websites or checking geo-restrictions. Here’s how to set it up on popular browsers.

Open Chrome and go to Settings > System.Click Open your computer’s proxy settings. This will open your system’s network settings:On Windows: Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Proxy. On macOS: Go to System Preferences > Network > select your active network > Advanced > Proxies.Enable the Manual Proxy Setup and enter the IP address and port number of your chosen proxy.Save changes, and Chrome will now route traffic through the proxy.

Firefox has built-in proxy settings separate from your system settings:

Open Firefox and go to Settings > General.Scroll down to Network Settings and click Settings.Select Manual proxy configuration and enter your proxy’s IP address and port number. You can also specify separate proxies for HTTP, HTTPS, and SOCKS connections, depending on your needs.Click OK to apply the settings.

Edge uses the system’s proxy settings:

Open Edge, go to Settings > System and performance > Open your computer’s proxy settings.Set up the proxy in the network settings as described above for Windows.Edge will route traffic through the configured proxy.Open Safari and go to Safari > Preferences > Advanced.Click Change Settings next to Proxies to open the Network settings. In the Proxies tab, enter the proxy details for the type of proxy you’re using (e.g., HTTP, HTTPS, SOCKS).Click OK and Apply to save the settings.

Imagine you’re ethically testing an IP block by changing your IP through a proxy:

Find a Proxy: Go to a site like ProxyScrape, select a proxy from your target region, and note its IP and port.Configure Proxy in Firefox:Open Settings > Network Settings.Select Manual proxy configuration, enter the IP and port, and click OK.Run Test: Visit the target site and observe if it blocks your proxy IP. Note any changes in behavior or responses.Switch Proxies: If the site blocks one proxy IP, rotate to a new one and repeat the test to assess if multiple IPs can bypass the block.

Reminder: Always ensure you have explicit permission before performing any testing, including using proxies to bypass IP blocks. This practice is a valuable part of ethical penetration testing but must always follow legal and professional standards.
