ARTICLE ADTexas Attorney General Ken Paxton has taken legal action against Allstate and its data subsidiary, Arity, accusing them of unlawfully collecting, using, and selling driving data from over 45 million Americans.
Allstate and Arity allegedly embedded tracking codes into widely-used mobile apps like Life360, GasBuddy, Fuel Rewards, and Routely. These apps have been downloaded over 115 million times on Google Play, covertly collecting location data every 15 seconds after users granted location permissions.
In addition, Allstate reportedly purchased location data directly from major automakers, including Toyota, Mazda, Fiat, and Chrysler, to build an extensive driving behavior database. This data helped adjust insurance quotes, renewals, and pricing based on consumers’ driving habits without their knowledge or consent.
