Hello people

I hope you are all doing well, today I would like to share an easy way to bypass the restriction of accounts which using Lock Profile for their account. As it’s a feature to Facebook accounts if they like to be more private than public, such as Instagram Private accounts.

Before starting read this (https://www.facebook.com/help/196419427651178) from facebook support team.

After reading you will see these points:

What happens when you lock your profile

- Only friends will see the photos and posts on your profile.

- Only friends can see your full size profile picture and cover photo.

- Any posts you’ve shared in the past to Public will change to Friends.

- Only a portion of your About Info will be visible to everyone on your profile.

- Only your friends will be able to see your Stories.

- Profile review and tag review will be turned on.

- You’ll be able to share new posts and photos with only your friends.

Now we understand that whenever someone locks his/her account we can not see any post from the profile and we only know a little bit of information, such as bio and which city they live in or college which they studying in.

Let’s see what I found

1- Only friends can see your full size profile picture and cover photo.

When someone lock his/her profile we can not see the original even size of the photo, but what about full size with the date and the description (what wrote on the picture)?

I found that when we search for someone on Mobile app or m.facebook.com we can find the photo of that person so it will bypass one of the importance of Lock Profile feature.

First I searched for someone in my Mobile to add him to be my friend at Facebook, then I wanted to know if he posted a photo of himself to realize if that person is my friend or not, I only found one photo which he uploaded to his cover in Facebook.

Searching for the profile
Found the cover of the locked profile from the search

So we could bypass one of the safety features of Facebook.

That was in searching, but I found another way which it was when someone posted something and if we just click on that post then click on the cover photo we could also see the same result.

So I could see someone’s cover photo with full details without being friend with that person on Facebook.

By searching for the name I could find some other information.

Where is the security impact?

Here I bypassed one of the safety features which is like the Instagram private account, so when people lock their account they think they are more private but they weren’t.

How that happened?

As facebook ponited here (https://www.facebook.com/help/196419427651178):

Profile posts, photos, albums and stories will only be visible to friends when you lock your profile.

and:

When you lock your profile, the audience for feature photos, past profile pictures, and past cover photos is set to Friends.

But by default the cover posts were public even if someone lock his/her profile, the cover photo and the posts about (life event posts and studying posts and other activity posts in profile) will be remained as Public.

After I reported to Facebook they closed as Not applicable for the following reasons which as I read I don’t think they are right because Locking profile feature is a safety feature which people think they will be more safe in their social media. By the way they fixed it after one week which that’s not nice from a big program like Meta to do that because in every program when they close reports as N/A it means they will not do any action but this program fix everything without respecting reporters (shame).

Meta response

I hope you enjoy it.

Best regards
