It was only a few years ago at CES when I met the folks at Displace in a discreet hotel room. There were random cables, wires, and tech trinkets scattered throughout, and one of the startup's employees was sitting on the floor, tightening a few more bolts before running the demo for the world's first truly wireless TV.

It's safe to say that since then, Displace has been thriving and surviving, with the company today releasing two new models of its wireless TV: Displace Pro and Displace Basic.

Displace OS

In essence, the Displace experience hasn't changed much since I last saw the product; it's still a no-dangling-cable affair, with a vacuum-sealed backplate and an onboard battery to keep the system running for hours. The upgrades focus on a new operating system, Displace OS, and an attachable soundbar-speaker hybrid that doubles as an expanded battery.

Displace OS does just about everything you'd expect modern-day TV software to do, from firing up popular streaming services to casting your phone screen. It can also leverage AI to answer your most burning TV questions. But then there are the AI agents, which the company says can help you handle tasks such as ordering food delivery or sending emails via voice -- so long as you agree to sign in and connect your accounts to your TV, of course.

For what it's worth, the company does say that all data is safely stored on the device. While my experience with AI agents, in general, has been rather disappointing, I'll hold my thoughts until I've tested Displace's approach and seen the tech in person.

Hardware changes

Both Displace TV models come with "push-to-pop" legs, should you not want to (or can't) mount the TV to a wall, which the company suggests takes only 10 seconds now.

There's also a new wireless soundbar-speaker system that snaps directly onto the bottom of the TVs. Besides enhancing audio quality, Displace says the companion accessory should give the TV an additional 150+ hours of battery life.

Availability

The Displace Pro, which comes with the complimentary soundbar, is available now for pre-order for $4,999 for the 55-inch size and $2,999 for the 27-inch. The Displace Basic sells for $2,499 for the 55-inch size and $1,499 for the 27-inch size.
