ARTICLE ADlet’s see what cookie is ?
You may have seen when you visited a site an alert pop’s up and said : “ Allow cookies” and you just clicked on allow to continue you’re work without even thinking of what actually these cookies are.
A cookie is a small file of letters and numbers that is downloaded on to your computer when you visit a website. Cookies are used by many websites and can do a number of things, eg remembering your preferences, recording what you have put in your shopping basket, and counting the number of people looking at a website.
So here is the question : why is it so important?
One of things that could happen to you is Cross site Request Forgery ( CSRF ). Which the hacker sends a request to a site like bank from your browser and can Lead to many things (Note that the hacker won’t see you’re cookies and just use you’re browser and you’re cookies for His/Her purposes).
As an example for what can it be done with these cookies is that a saved information from you’re log in to the bank account Wich can lead to hacking you’re account or request for money transfer without even you know it . cookies have expiration date but the expiration date can be long .
how can I prevent this attack ? Or many other things that could happen to me by these cookies?
The most easy thing to do is when you visit a site ( rather it’s known or it’s new ) and you’ve created an account there,It’s best to log out of you’re account when you’re finished .the cookie that saved you’re login information will be removed from you’re browser and if CSRF happened no one can achieve there dark Goals. You can also remove cookies on you’re browser settings manually. I know that most of us won’t do that. Either we don’t have any information about it or it’s easy to just leave it there.
Next time you visit a site and accept it’s cookies remember to clean you’re cookies.
