ARTICLE ADWith the next version of Chromium Edge, Microsoft says it will update the font rendering experience to match the standards of other native Windows apps, such as Calculator, Groove Music, etc.
Microsoft has already enabled the new font rendering experience in the Canary builds. As per the experimental flag description, users will notice contrast enhancement, gamma correction, quality and clarity improvements if they use the feature properly.
This new update will also allow Microsoft Edge to respect user ClearType Tuner settings when applying text contrast enhancement and gamma correction.
To enable the new feature, head to the Edge Canary's flags menu and turn on the #edge-enhance-text-contrast flag.
Once done, you can test the updated experience by running the ClearType Text Tuner (search for “Adjust ClearType text” in the Windows Search) and trying the sample texts one by one.
You can see the effect of the ClearType Text Tuner selections you made by viewing a demo page on GitHub. Here's a comparison between the default and maximum ClearType Text Tuner Settings:
Remember that Edge must be restarted after changing the settings and ClearType tunning applies to your primary monitor only.
This feature is set to arrive in Microsoft Edge stable builds later this year.
