“I'm a baaaaad guy, Duh….”

Consider this question: what does your mind immediately conjure up when I mention hackers? Breaking rules? Stealing personal data? Do you imagine a guy in a black hoodie tapping on the keyboard rapidly while holding a computer with a large number of numbers and letters displayed on it, hoping to gain access to someone’s personal computer? I have heard a lot of these common misconceptions about hackers ‌ from ‌ ‌ people ‌ ‌ in ‌ ‌ my ‌ ‌ life.

As a matter of fact, hackers are generally considered to be bad guys in the online ‌world. People see hackers as the source of internet problems. There are some who even regard hackers as evil !!!! The question is, why do they believe in such things? Am i a real devil? Or just a cute Samuel who wishes to find a Unicorn one day :)

When I hear the word hacker, it makes me think about curiosity, determination and self-motivation. The image that comes to my mind is a person who gets excited about finding ways that no other person has discovered before, someone who doesn’t give up easily and always gets excited to pursue goals. People see hackers as problem makers but I see them as problem solvers.

Why People Consider us as an Evil?

A large part of the reason is that society often refers to unethical hackers, whereas ethical hackers don’t get the same consideration. There are probably still people out there who have never heard of ethical hackers and have no idea what they do.

They both take part in the same tasks; the only difference is that they have different purposes for hacking. Generally, the ethical hacker is someone who works for any kind of organization and gets paid for finding vulnerabilities in their network before their adversaries can do so. The ‌ ‌ unethical ‌ hacker ‌ ‌is interested in finding the vulnerabilities too but in the aim to gain access to other networking systems and extract data from them.

How People’s Assumptions Affect our Life?

It kinda makes our life hard. Thank to SecureBug, i have good job, i earn good money, and i can even share my stories with you. But what about other hackers? Many of hackers are not lucky enough too earn enough by working as an ethical hacker. Some companies still avoid working with crowdsourced security companies, only because they afraid of the term “Hacker”.

I believe that ethical hackers and unethical hackers complement one another. How could you know that an ethical hacker is doing their job correctly or not if there weren’t unethical hackers?! Have you ever thought how boring being an ethical hacker could be if there wasn’t any challenge like cyber-attacks against them?

There may not be so much awareness of the importance of having a hacker in an organization, but ethical hackers can be crucial for some industries that deal with sensitive personal information. And on the other hand, unethical hackers can challenge ethical ones, making them more effective within‌ ‌an‌ ‌organization.

There is only one to prove that you are committed to make a better world. “Do Something for It”. People would finally believe that ethical hacking would not harm them, if ethical hackers keep growing their community and solving the security issues.
