Ring Doorbell + Indoor Cam
Amazon/ZDNET

As Black Friday, the biggest shopping day of the year, draws nearer, Amazon is already unveiling outstanding deals on home security devices, including from Ring and Echo. For a limited time, Prime members can get a second-generation Indoor Cam and Ring Battery Bundle for only $80. That's a $60 discount on a duo of useful, ZDNET-tested smart home devices.

Last year's Ring Indoor Cam was one of the first in its class to feature a manual privacy cover that you can swivel when you don't want any video or audio recorded. It's a simple addition that makes sense for an indoor security camera, providing you with more control over your home's minute-to-minute surveillance.

With 1080p-resolution video and color night vision, the Ring Indoor Cam can also capture Advanced Pre-Roll. This feature records a few extra seconds before every motion to provide the context of what happened in a complete picture. Like other Ring security cameras, the Ring Indoor Cam features customizable motion zones to avoid false alarms and unnecessary alerts. It also has a live view with two-way talk and a siren you can trigger from the Ring app.

Alexa integration makes viewing the camera feed on your Echo device easy and alerts you if any motion is detected. Just know that a Ring Protect Plan is required to record and save video with cloud storage, get person detection, get photo preview in notifications, and set home and away modes. This subscription plan is also required to link cameras to the Ring Alarm.

The Ring Battery Doorbell includes mostly the same features as the Indoor Cam -- a 1080p HD video camera with night vision, two-way audio, and advanced motion detection. You can recharge its built-in battery by simply detaching your doorbell from the wall mount and connecting its USB-C port to a power source. The Battery Doorbell is also controlled through the Ring smartphone app.

While Ring has introduced a newer iteration, the Ring Battery Doorbell Plus, it costs $99 standalone and doesn't provide significant benefits over the previous model. Snatching the Indoor Cam and Ring Battery Bundle for only $80 is a convenient way to get a great value.
